My Recent Fandoms || Top Ten Tuesday

TopTenTuesday_2

Top Ten Tuesday is an original feature/weekly meme created by The Broke and the Bookish.

Oh yay! Another top ten tuesday freebie! I love days like these. It was a fandom freebie so of course I had to participate. Now, if I have to explain the whole complexity of each fandom that I am in, we will be here all day. And I cannot proceed to picking my top ten because I love all of my fandoms dearly. (Okay, maybe Harry Potter is basically on top, but it is like you’re asking me to pick a favorite child.) So I thought, why not share the fandoms that I recently got into? Too much fangirling may be felt in one blog post. You have been warned. Let’s get to it!

Yuri! On Ice – Figure skating. Fan service. Fabulous diversity. Help me, I think my nose bled for every character. I especially love Viktor Nikiforov, because he is just a cinnamon roll! I am planning to feature this one for Fandom Features because I really loved every single thing about it. Can you hear my heartbeat tired of feeling never enough… I cannot be tamed until I get to see Season 2. Until then, I am dead from feelings. Also if you have to know, yes. I SHIP YURI AND VIKTOR SO BAD, IT HURTS.

The Crown – Some might have watched because of Matt Smith, but I am a girl obsessed with historical and political drama. This show is beyond words to describe because the speech-reducing beauty it beholds is a perfectly imperfect representation of what it was like back then when Elizabeth II became the Queen of England. Bless the actors and their interpretations of their characters.

(This is the part where I run out of words to say what I feel because I turned into a puddle, sputtering words like “aghrereogrwhoe8urgewhve”)

(We are only two fandoms in and I am already dying. Great start.)

Class – I have so many questions regarding this series. But if I try really hard, it all comes down to one: WHY ON EARTH DID I HAVE TO WAIT UNTIL I WAS 19 TO TAKE NOTICE OF DOCTOR WHO AND WHY DID A SPIN-OFF CONVINCE ME? Class had the premise that made me want to watch more. I can’t say much without spoiling anything, but you need to watch this. In return, I promise to watch Doctor Who.

One Punch Man – Saitama is the hero that I needed. He lives in a society that has the most ridiculous heroes and monsters, but I guess that is what makes him amazing. The premise is simple enough, he defeats his enemies in one punch.

I mean sure, Genos is also good, but the dude’s a cyborg and has too many fangirls. I prefer fangirling over Saitama. He’s funny, frank, and flawlessly powerful. No, I’m not smiling right now. You are. I can’t help it. I love Saitama too much.

Six of Crows – I want to punch myself for only finishing the first book this year. But luckily, I can already read Crooked Kingdom whenever I want because it’s just there on my stack. BUT STILL, WHAT BLASPHEMY. HOW DID I SURVIVE 6 MONTHS WITHOUT READING ABOUT THIS CREW? (Oh right, thesis.) Don’t make the same mistake that I did. If you have this book, read it asap.

This gang was so unpredictable and dare I say it, I loved this more than the Grisha trilogy. And dare I say this, too. They are the real Suicide Squad. Move over, DC.

Riverdale – I have been reading the Archie comics since I was a kid, but I never found a show that truly manifested it properly on the screen. The moment I saw the previews, I know that I will be immediately hooked when this show will be amazing. Granted, this show overlooked a main point that hurt a lot of people. And yes, it is not okay. Hopefully, I could talk about more in a Fandom Feature. But the main reason I love this show is because of:

1) Betty and Veronica

2) Kevin

3) WHO KILLED JASON???

Supergirl – Despite the backlash that DC is receiving when it comes to their movies, (and I partially blame Zack Snyder for that) I believe that they are nailing their TV shows. I love Supergirl because she is empowering in her right. Sometimes I wish that this series existed while I was growing up, but I guess the next generation has something to be thankful for. Which reminds me: I should watch Season 2 soon enough.

Zara Larsson – Her songs are extremely catchy.  I think she is underrated in some places, but she deserves all of the recognition she gets. I mean just listen to Symphony, and I will welcome you with open arms and not let go.

Zara-Larsson

Boys generally Asian – OKAY. Before you come at me, I am very much aware that this group is a parody. But if they were legit, I would be all over the place wearing their merch and waving their poop glowsticks. My bias is R.O.P but the bias wrecker is Jeungri. I love Who’s It Gonna Be more but Dong Saya Dae will always have a special place in my heart.

maxresdefault (1)

Haikyuu – This one is a buzzer beater because I was just about to draft this post when I decided to watch this. AND YES, cramming this post was worth it. I love the ethics involved in this series and I am only 5 episodes in. Ugh, sports animes can be my kryptonite. I will get back on this one, but I am certainly am a fan in just 5 episodes. ONWARD MARCH.

NO ONE TOUCH SUGAWARA. HE IS MY PRECIOUS CINNAMON ROLL.

Yay! And that’s a Tuesday for you! Quick! I need someone to fanscream with! Or better yet, what are your recent fandoms? Who knows then? By the time you read this post, I would have to make another one because of the fandoms I have added. Bit crazy, I know. But that is why I named myself The Ultimate Fangirl.

Fangirl Corner: Epic Rap Battles of History

Fangirl Corner

Warning: Video-heavy blog post 🙂

Truth be told, I am a history nerd. I love everything about history. From the ancient civilizations to the 21st century, history is my forte. It is the only subject that I can study until the end of time. One day, when I was watching some videos on the React Channel, a video popped up in the suggestions labeled “Rasputin vs Joseph Stalin”. I was just blown away by the rapping and the ridiculous accuracy of the meanings behind the raps. I was so proud of myself because I know the references. I encountered this rap battle on a particular Youtube channel called Epic Rap Battles of History. (ERB for short) I immediately got interested. It slowly took over my life and I memorized the battles by heart. The beats in their rap battles are totally worth the replay button and you just can’t get those raps out of your head.

epic-rap-battles-history

The spear head of the channel is Nice Peter and Epic Lloyd, two insanely badass rappers and men of history. The rap battles actually started out on Nice Peter’s channel, but they continued doing the battles on their official channel. They quickly gained a huge following, reaching 6 million subscribers by the start of their 3rd season. The show is now on its 5th season, and they just released the first rap battle. I have huge expectations this season, because this premier was AWESOME. And who’s in the battle? J.R.R Tolkien and George R.R. Martin!

Here are the reasons why you should subscribe to their channel:

First of all, they live up to their name. Like moi, their battles are EPIC. I mean who would’ve thought that Darth Vader and Adolf Hitler would have the greatest rap battle ever?

Second, their process is magic. The lyrically inducing raps, the eerie up-to-point make-up and costumes, the ridiculous lot of dedication through research and the amazing editing. That is why no matter how many Behind The Scenes videos they upload, I will watch every single one of it.

Third, the creators are very nice. They take battle suggestions from us, the fans. Which makes the creative process challenging and brilliant at the same time.

Of course, I will not stop there. Since Tuesday is famous for its top ten’s (pun intended), I am not leaving you guys empty handed. I will gladly list down my top ten favorite rap battles in descending order. Despite being listed, all of these battles are equally awesome. Believe me, I had a hard time.

10. Albert Einstein vs. Stephen Hawking

Who knew Einstein and Hawking had some known differences? This rap is too catchy to pass up, plus the lines are oh so incredible. Watch out for Stephen Hawking.

9. Romeo and Juliet vs. Bonnie and Clyde

I have been gushing about this battle for ages. Despite making wrong decisions, I love Romeo and Juliet to bits. I have long history with the play. But Bonnie and Clyde are also wonderful two peas in a pod. Plus, who would not love this battle? Hannah Hart and Grace Helbig are in this!

8. Darth Vader vs Adolf Hitler

Granted, the rap battle that they started with is John Lennon vs. Bill O’ Reilly. But, this was the rap battle that had people talking. It was just their second battle, but you could their creativity in this one. Sick rhymes, guys.

7. Stephen King vs Edgar Allan Poe

Two literary agents of horror battle it out on this one. If this does validate what is to come, Stephen King himself actually tweeted about this rap battle!

6. Steve Jobs vs Bill Gates

Sense knows nothing. This is the ultimate nerd battle. Ever imagined what would happen if Steve Jobs and Bill Gates finally battle it out? I can say that this will already satisfy that longing. Forget Ashton Kutcher’s Jobs. You can never go wrong with this one.

5. Cleopatra vs. Marilyn Monroe

Still the best woman battle on the show (sorry Oprah!), and it slays! Cat claws here and there, plus these girls are downright hardcore. Personally, I hope they incorporate more women in the battle. There are a lot more women who can get facts straight in a rap battle.

4. Eastern Philosophers vs. Western Philosophers

I almost forgot to mention that Epic Rap Battles of History drops bombs like these every now and then. These people obviously have a lot of differences, clearly because they all gave significant insights in the world of philosophy. It’s like a boss battle, but with three great minds in each team.

3. Rasputin vs. Stalin

Probably the most epic finale still, they made sure they ended with a bang. And all are Russian figures. As I mentioned earlier, this is the rap battle that got me to hit that lovely subscribe button.

2. Dr. Seuss vs William Shakespeare

I am a George Watsky fangirl. I now admit that. 🙂 No really, thanks to ERB. This is an early battle, but you can see how it is just as cool and well-thought out. It is a fact that Dr. Seuss suffered from oral cancer, so you have to see how he plays it out in this battle.

1. Mozart vs. Skrillex

This one eventually won it out, because you cannot be wrong with fusing classic music with dubstep. How is that even possible? Magic, with a hint two accurately portrayed figures.

Runner-ups!

I feel bad for taking these guys out of my top ten, so I decided to include it here.

Gandhi vs. Martin Luther King Jr.

Steven Spielberg vs. Alfred Hitchcock

George Washington vs. William Wallace

Well, that turned out well. I hope I was able to convince you guys to appreciate your history more. To be honest, I have this weird feeling that they will probably have Alexander Hamilton in a future battle. Let’s keep our fingers (and toes) crossed for that.

What’s your favorite epic rap battle? Leave down on the comments below!

P.S. Yes, I am aware that I just posted a hiatus post. But this is a special case. 😛

Top Ten Tuesday: Bookish People You Should Subscribe to On Youtube

Aye5

Top Ten Tuesday is an original feature/weekly meme created by The Broke and the Bookish.

This one is a special Top Ten Tuesday for me because it is all about booktubers! Just in case  you accidentally stumbled on my blog and have no clue what the heck is going on, I’ll do it in the fashion on how they do it on Youtube. *ehem*

Hey there readers! My name is Bianca and today I have a top ten tuesday feature dedicated to spreading the love for booktubers. You can already assume how booktube works: they make videos about books. They express their love, their opinions, their hype around books by using Youtube as a platform. Just like us bloggers who use sites such as WordPress and Blogspot to fangirl/fanboy on.

I love watching videos on my free time. (Sorry guys! I cannot word all the time hahaha) Before I was blogging, I was posting my anime amvs on YouTube. But life happened, so my wee little channel is abandoned.

I consider watching book videos as a stress-reliever, since watching these people rave and express their love for books just put a smile on my face. When I’m not reading blog posts or creating one myself, and fangirling and chatting with fellow bloggers on twitter, I go and watch some of my favorite booktubers on Youtube. Like bloggers, more and more people join the booktube community everyday. Which is why I will not be featuring booktubers that have a subscribers above 1,000. Instead, I want to share with you the videos of booktubers who don’t have that huge following (yet), because I think their videos deserve more love and in my opinion, should definitely have more subscribers on their channels.

Amy at LiterallyAmy

Amy’s journey on booktube has only just begun, yet you could say that I have this inkling that her channel will someday have the following it deserves. Her videos are very pleasant to watch, and she definitely has more to talk about. I could definitely say amen to her fangirl dictionary video.

Sandra at Bookstahooda

It’s nice to hear different perspectives sometimes, and for me, Sandra’s videos are somehow refreshing to watch. When I stumbled upon her huge unhaul videos (there are 4 of them), I felt this huge satisfaction, because that’s how I felt when I had to unhaul books.

Jen at Book Syrup

Sometimes I don’t understand the concept of Youtube because Jen obviously has a lot of interesting videos. She is so underrated 😦 Her content is particularly cool and thoughtful, and it just so happens that when I clicked on this video that I have linked for you guys to watch, I was in a dilemma of buying particular books. So thank you Jen, you’re a life saver.

Mel at The Book Moo

The thing is, what bring out the loveliness of these booktuber’s videos are their personalities. And you could see that when they put their heart and soul on their videos. I can say that Mel has a lot of personality. I fancy her accent and how she expresses her thoughts around the topic of her video. And apparently, she also has a blog! Obviously also called The Book Moo.

Update: Yep, Mel’s not Scottish. She’s from Liverpool. 😀

Indy at Tap’sLIFEandBooks

When you’ve got lovely content, you must know that I press that subscribe button faster than a heartbeat. And yes, that particular event happened to Indy. She is definitely hyper and I am certainly glad to have seen her channel. When it comes to her thoughts, I love how frank she is.

Heather from Heather Forever Books

I may or may not have found my book mother. Wait what? 🙂 She is very cool, and I love most of her videos. When she does tags, her description of the books make me want to read the book in question. Makes me wish that I live next to a bookstore.

Brandon at brandonthebookaddict

*gasps* I know. Calm down. But just in case, I’ll scream for you. IT’S A BOY BOOKTUBER. *double gasps* You didn’t think this list would not consist of guys, right? Well, hey there. A rarity, but finding a guy who likes books is so cool. Same respect to guy book bloggers. Anyways, Brandon has really cool content on his channel. He also just doesn’t talk about books, since he also shares his love for TV shows.

Ngoc at happycomesfirst

It’s not everyday that you see a person with a cool personality. And with Ngoc, you could say that her channel is simply elegant. She’s quirky and sweet, and she loves doing new things. Watching her videos can be compared to kawaii stuff, because she does it effortlessly. So it really queries me why she still doesn’t have at least a thousand subs.

Nikki at randomlilreads

I absolutely swear that the amount of Australian booktubers on this post was not planned. I should probably consider moving to Australia… Kidding. Anyways, when I first saw Nikki’s channel, I thought her channel already had a huge following. Yet, it still doesn’t have so. It’s easy to get psyched with Nikki’s videos, especially since her calm persona and obvious fangirl-ish ness is very transparent on her videos. (She has an R2-D2 TBR jar. I mean, come on!)

Otavio from The Galilean Library

Straight to the point, whose videos where I just shout “True! True! True!”, and who feels all the feels, Otavio is on the top. And hey, a guy booktuber! He talks deep, and there’s this uncanny feeling I get when I watch his videos. He’s practically my spirit animal and I adore him to bits. You can guess why I chose this particular video to link, since I made a similar post about it. (But I have TBRs now. Yet, I feel it to bits!)

This was such a fun Top Ten Tuesday post! Although, I am still curious why these booktubers have less than 1,000 subscribers. They deserve more love. I hope I introduced you to a booktuber who you will love to bits and will continue to support with a sub on their channel/s.

Will I make another one for my favorite bloggers? I’m still puzzled at the moment, since I dwell more on book blogging and you guys are all so fantastic. But who knows?

Who are your favorite booktubers? Do you want to recommend some of them? Link them up in the comments. ❤

Top Ten Tuesday: Songs I Wish Were Books

Aye

Top Ten Tuesday is an original feature/weekly meme created by The Broke and the Bookish.

Who doesn’t listen to a song and think, “Hey. This could be a great book.”? I mean, if you have not thought about it, maybe you haven’t found the perfect song that makes the words flow like wild from that brain of yours. But in my case, songs always get me in the mood to write. When I listen to a song, I imagine an endless parade of characters. Each with different quirks, that is perfect for the song. At the same time, I think of the book that fits the song perfectly.

I have never been more inspired to do a Top Ten Tuesday because of these reasons:

1. It has really been a stressful week, despite the fact that it’s only Tuesday.

2. I  need a break. I even forgot to post some stuff for the book club, which screams bad hosting skills. 😦

3. I have been anticipating to do this post since… forever?

So as a break from my usual routine during my finals, here are some of the songs I wish were books. (I  know. I should be studying for my finals. I already studied for my exam on Thursday so… )

Stressed Out by twenty one pilots
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pXRviuL6vMY

There are a lot of books out there that explain how hard it is to be someone growing up, but as the lyrics said: “Wish we could turn back time, to the good old days. When the mama sang us to sleep, but now we’re stressed out.” A song never hit me that hard. How I wished I had savored my childhood while it lasted. Plus with all the stress that college offers and all, I could really use a break.

Rather Be by Clean Bandit featuring Jess Glynne
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m-M1AtrxztU

I have crafted a lot of poems because of this song. And this February, it has officially been stuck in my head for two years. The only thing left is to turn into a book. Maybe where the girl travels around the world, soul searching and all, but still feels incomplete.  I guess the story goes from there. It sounds like a YA bestseller. (A fangirl can dream, okay?)

Raindrops by SNBRN featuring Kerli
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KmV4S0cckCI

A book where it just rains. And about fashion. Because you just want to walk a runway when you listen to this song. It sounds so hipster-ish, but at the same time, it is ridiculously perfect for those rainy days where you can say, “Can we stay like this forever?”

Shake It Out by Florence + The Machine
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WbN0nX61rIs

You can compare this song to battling your inner demons, and it really speaks to me as a song that lets you find yourself amidst all the chaos that is happening in our world right now. So deep yet so reachable. WHERE IS MY WRITING PEN?

Sweet Disposition by The Temper Trap
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jxKjOOR9sPU

This is the song that makes you get in the mood to do stuff, because it inspires you to do stuff. In the movie (500) Days of Summer, this song plays while Tom teaches Summer about the city’s architecture style. If that’s not romantic enough, try playing this song as a wedding march or something. That will probably tug a few heartstrings. Or you could just let it play while you’re pulling out an all-nighter. That works, too. It’s like a title for the book with a lot of perfect, romantic moments. I like that.

Lonely Hearts Club by Marina and the Diamonds
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NeDe89NnC9M

I am aware of a book’s existence, but I don’t think it delivered the same thoughts that I had for a song like this. I mean, I took the meaning literally and figuratively. I think I saw a French movie like this song, though. The plot was really similar, but I see it in book form as somewhat of a club, and they meet there. Then it’s all dramatic, and “Do you want to be with somebody like me?”. That kind of drama.

Her Love Is My Religion by The Cab

The Cab has a lot of songs that I want as books, but this one ruled out every song. I mean, has there ever been a book where a guy just expresses every step of falling in love? Similar to how contemporaries often revolve about girls falling in love with the most handsome guy in school. I want a book where a guy finds a girl beautiful, where the reader falls in love with him at the same time, because of his passion to make the girl happy. Yes, sounds like an interesting premise?

Young Volcanoes by Fall Out Boy
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2ZvHkOAtUYQ&oref=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.youtube.com%2Fwatch%3Fv%3D2ZvHkOAtUYQ&has_verified=1

Perfection beyond comprehension, if used in the right book. The song screams to me as a book about friendships. And a rebellious friendship at that. I mean, we all belonged in a clique, gang, or squad at one point right? And in that group of friends, there were times where we just go with the wind and do some stuff to our heart’s content? Not specifically a road trip, but in one of those days where you decided to come home late just to go stargazing with them in the middle of the quad? Okay, seriously. Do I need to write a book already?

Waiting for Love by Avicii

This one is not specifically a romantic love story, but rather just a story about love. Love that revolves around family, or a story about fantasy and the background music plays while they go on an epic quest. I actually pitched this song as a background to a story about a boy who loved books because of his mother. Then they changed it without notifying me. Whoops sorry. Got a little personal.

Hey Stephen by Taylor Swift
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W29YvQEwF7s

When I played this song, I instantly fell in love. I know, I’m a huge sucker for contemporaries and best friend turned love relationships. Sue me.

Guess that’s it, then? How about you? What songs do you picture as books? I would love to hear your story pitches!
