I Got Tagged: Unpopular Opinions Book Tag

UO

So Bianca finally decided to catch up on doing tags? Why do I always choose the most controversial tags? This is so me.

I was tagged by Raven at Dreamy Addictions way back last year. I am so sorry that I have not done this tag sooner, but thank you so much for tagging me, Raven. ❤

Anyways, this tag speaks for itself. Note that this may be a controversial tag, and I hope that this does not strain our friendship, blogger friends. This is just my honest opinion, though I will try to be as discreet as possible and would try to use the word hate less often.

Onto the tag!

1.A popular book or series that you didn’t like

download (2)

Apparently, this question will finally put the cat out of the bag. The series in question is the Shatter Me series by Tahereh Mafi. I did not like anything in this book except for Tahereh Mafi’s writing style, which was alluring and vibrant. But the plot, the characters, and the dystopian aspect? Nope. Nope. Nope.

2. A popular book that everyone hates but you love

I personally had a good time reading The Selection by Kiera Cass. It was somewhat a refreshing read even though my friends gave me a blurb like “Hunger Games – the killings + The Bachelor”. The rest of the series is on a different aspect though.

3. A love triangle where your ship did not sail

51A2pE47cPL._SX324_BO1,204,203,200_

Due to the alarming amounts of spoilers I see on Twitter and blogs that do not even filter their reviews, I know that my ship in the Throne of Glass series did not sail. But despite the fact that it did not sail, I will someday muster the courage to read the series in its entirety. (P.S. This is why I avoided Twitter when ACOMAF was released. :D)

4. A popular genre that you hardly reach for.

High fantasy and paranormal. I really have no idea why, but the fantasy genre is not my cuppa. It’s a hit or miss for me, which is why I avoid it. (Plus, not enough male leads. Always brooding.) For example, here are some of the books that I have not read yet.

5. A beloved character you didn’t like

tris

Tris Prior from the Divergent trilogy. Hear me out. Tris is a level-headed human being, but in some ways, being a post-apocalyptic hero is not the way to go. Also, choosing the faction that ultimately give you pain is not the best way to go.

On the positive note, my mother loved Divergent. I guess she will buy the series now.

6. A popular author you can’t get into

9780373212057_FC_proof

Oh dear. There are tons. Yet on the top of my head, there’s Jennifer Armentrout. Her books just do not appeal to me, and I do not plan on reading her books soon.

7. A popular book series you have no interest in reading

a441fe047ccc036d3fd8a2726f6195b9

The answer to this one would have to be The Maze Runner series by James Dashner. I was spoiled (thanks to Pinterest). Not unless someone gives me the whole series, I will never pick it up. Especially if I have to go through the pain that is characters dying.

8. An adaptation you like better than the book

I will always answer the adaptation of The Fault in our Stars. I also have solid reasons because:

1) I read the book after the trailer came out,

2) I cried harder during the movie

3) Ansel Elgort may not be the perfect Augustus Waters, but he is in my book.

And that’s about it for the unpopular opinions tag 🙂 I’m sorry if I hit some hearts. I did not mean to. ❤

Now, I tag you lovely people! If you have done the tag, feel free to ignore. Or if you want to do it again… YAY!

Morgan at Happily Ever Bookish

Louise at Genie Reads

Shanayah at The Scarlet Book Keeper

and anyone else who would want to do the tag. 🙂

What is your unpopular opinion story? Let’s chat.

  1. I will admit that I want to read The Selection, I imagine it will be a guilty pleasure at best but I’d be ok with that

    1. It was actually really good. If I only had the momentum back, I would have read it until I reached The One. But then spoilers came so there’s no fun in that. I know it will be different for you, so I think you should go for a Selection read. 😄

  2. I didn’t hate the Shatter Me series, but I definitely think it’s overhyped & aside from Tahereh’s beautiful writing, the series didn’t really do anything for me. Ahhhh….the ship that didn’t sail in the Throne of Glass series </3 OMG I TOTALLY AGREE WITH YOU ABOUT TRIS! She was basically suicidal & reckless for the 2nd & 3rd books & it was passed off as brave & necessary sacrifices?!

    1. Yes, it was definitely the hype 😦 I mean, the writing was exquisite! But pros and cons wise, it outweighs as a no-go series for me.

And that ship put me in a slump even though I was just 40 pages in Crown of Midnight ugh

  3. Agreed on The Selection! The books are just fun to read 🙂

    1. I know. But it’s really just the first book for me. Though I hope to read The Elite soon. 🙂

      1. I hope you’ll enjoy the rest of the series as well! 🙂

Nice tag !! I really enjoyed the selection series as well, it was super amusing. I also dislike tris, and the whole divergent series tbh :W

  5. I’m in the same page as you in Crown of Midnight. My ship will not sail and I’m sad about it. That’s also why I haven’t read HoF and QoS yet and I’ve finished CoM over a year ago. But I think I got the courage and I’ll read it next month 😛

    1. I haven’t even read Crown of Midnight yet hahaha. I know I picked it up but I just lost track because of the spoilers 😦 You go, Catia! Hope you enjoy HoF 🙂

      1. There are a lot of spoilers out there for Sarah J. Maas books. I just finished ACOMAF but I already knew a lot of things because of twitter

        1. IKR? Quite irritating, to say the least. Luckily, I avoided Twitter when they released ACOMAF. Basically, they exploded. Hahaha. But I hope spoilers will tame a little bit, so we can read at last.

          1. Spoilers won’t be a problem soon. It already calmed down a little bit. But people should be more careful. Not everyone gets the book or can read it as soon as it comes out

          2. Indeed! It really comes down to it. I know they have feels, too. It’s generally a “Please do note you’re reading a sequel.”

  6. I think you would like TFIOS (the book) better than the movie if you read it before watching! I think there’s something about the raw way the book was written that I REALLY connected with! (TFIOS is my favorite book by John Green!) I like fantasy because they always seem so much more high risk and get me more invested! I’m the type of person that doesn’t always connect with contemporary as much because it seems even more far out of reach than fantasy – contemporary is usually a perfect ideal of a life today, but with way more drama and angst and perfect endings. IT’S SO FLUFFY. I agree with you on paranormal, though!

    1. I loooove angsty contemporaries hahaha. My twin had the same comment, too. She loved the TFIOS book because of the connection you said. I am slowly paving my way to fantasy, don’t worry 🙂

  7. I also strongly disliked Shatter Me. People think I am crazy, but I am the only one who thought Warren was super abusive?

    1. I thought so to. But I also thought Juliette is mentally unstable to be a lead character.

  8. I agree with The Selection series. 😉 It’s such a guilty pleasure read and I’m having a hard time getting into fantasy novels too. 🙂 Great answers btw. 😀

    1. Yes indeed. Well, the first three books for me. 🙂 I’m more of a contemporary person, which is probably why I’m having a hard time with fantasy. Yay, thank you Ate 🙂
